Pilot Arrested for Carrying Loaded Gun in Florida Airport

A pilot was arrested Friday at a Florida airport after the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) authorities found a loaded gun in his briefcase.

Brian Andrew Machtemes, who lives in Minnesota, was arrested at the Southwest Florida International Airport, according to jail documents. On Saturday he was released after posting a $ 5,000 bail. Machtemes is a pilot of Sun Country Airlines, reported CBS News.

According to TSA rules, only unloaded weapons are allowed in closed containers that go in checked luggage, not handbags. WINK News said that Machtemes had a KEL-TEC .380 pistol with six projectiles in the luggage he was carrying.

When X-ray operators interrogated him, Machtemes declared that he had forgotten that the weapon was inside. Although Machtemes has a license to carry weapons in the state where he lives, he does not have the license to carry it in Florida, ABC 15 said.
